Numerical Prediction of Foundation Settlement Resting on Peat Soil at Kafr Saad, Domiat, Egypt

Abstract The aim of this research is to predict foundation settlement resting on peat soil layer using a numerical analysis software Plaxis 2D ver. 2020. study area located at Kafr Saad Domiat province extreme north east Nile Delta, Egypt. Peat known be the worst materials because its compressibility and low bearing capacity. studied building was five stories founded rigid raft. depth 1.5 m net pressure 50 kN/m 2 . profile consists soft clay from ground surface 3m followed by thickness 1m, final very till end boring 15 depth. water table 1.5m. observed recorded every days up 3 years. By comparing real field observation values with that obtained finite element it concluded predicted values. Also, validate results compared analytical method.
